Library of Alexandria

[edit]

The article currently claims about the Roman Empire

In the same year Christians sack the Library of Alexandria and burn all the books

This is most likely wrong and Wikipedia already recognizes as much in its article on the destruction of the Library itself http://en.wiki.x.io/wiki/Destruction_of_the_Library_of_Alexandria#Decree_of_Theodosius.2C_destruction_of_the_Serapeum_in_391 . There are many references to primary sources that all indicate that the temple(!) that was destroyed was not THE Library of Alexandria and probably didn't even house any great collection of books. The original sentence strikes me as atheist revisionism and is not sourced in any way.

I suggest that the sentence be removed entirely as it contradicts the much more thorough article on the destruction Library. I was about to suggest that the destruction of the Serapeum be mentioned instead, but then noticed that the article already does so in the religion section. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2003:4D:2D51:F471:6CB8:544B:84E7:254F (talk) 08:51, 2 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
