Nargis article

[edit]

An article for Nargis is in planning, for anyone interested. Tomorrow, once some impact reports come out, I will publish it. ♬♩ Hurricanehink (talk) 03:54, 3 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Not sure how accurate it is, but a news story from BBC mentions a TV report in Burma that pegs a current death toll from the storm at 243 direct. The same report mentions a retired government worker drawing comparisons between Nargis and Katrina.[1] Heaven lord, even without the convoluted details, this is already shaping up to be a bad disaster. Hurricane Angel Saki My own personal NHC 10:38, 4 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Here is link to initial report claiming similar number of death toll from the storm. [2]--Ugaap (talk) 12:29, 4 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

BOB 03-2008

[edit]

The number of the advisory is messed up as well if 1200 advisory should be number one and the system number should be the third. "At 1730 IST the well marked low pressure concentrated into a depression" -- グリフオーザー (talk) 20:44, 9 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

JTWC Designation

[edit]

Shouldn't the current cyclone be designated 03A instead of 03B? Or am I missing something? Badkhan (talk) 06:56, 21 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Can't figure it out either. I guess invests that cross into the Arabian Sea from the Bay of Bengal don't get their letter designation changed anymore. - グリフオーザー (talk) 08:15, 21 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Rashmi

[edit]

An article is being devloped here for it Rashmi Jason Rees (talk) 20:07, 26 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

When are you planning to finalize it? IMO its large enough to be published. Badkhan (talk) 18:49, 6 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I might finish it off later Jason Rees (talk) 18:58, 6 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Deep Depression ARB 02 Article

[edit]

I'm going to be working on an article for Deep Depression ARB 02 tonight just incase others were thinking of making it. If anyone else is, please leave a note here stating so, just so I know not to create the article so there aren't duplicates. Cyclonebiskit (talk) 12:52, 27 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Go for it. If you can do a decent enough article it might be worth merging 2008 Yemen floods in to it. Jason Rees (talk) 14:34, 27 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, since things are getting worse there now. I'm working on the article as quickly as I can. I'll post it once the MH is completed and it has some impact. Cyclone 03B is the correct name for the article right? (JTWC screwed up with the numbering since the pre storm formed in the Bay of Bengal) Cyclonebiskit (talk) 18:47, 28 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
No it should go to Deep Depression ARB 02 (2008) in my opinon Jason Rees (talk) 23:20, 28 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Acctully thinking about it im going to bring this subject up on the main WPTC talk page Jason Rees (talk) 01:21, 29 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Season Effects?

[edit]

Is it possible we could make a season effects chart in this article? You know, like the chart in the Atlantic season this year which says "this is a table of the storms in 2008 and their landfall(s), if any. deaths in parentheses are indirect, but still storm-related." Could we make that same chart here? 99.52.154.156 (talk) 00:25, 7 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Could do but wait untill the season is over Jason Rees (talk) 00:34, 7 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Well, the season is over now, could we put it in now? 76.253.127.25 (talk) 21:18, 12 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Yep im going to try and do it now Jason Rees (talk) 01:33, 26 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

JMA Tropical Storm Noul

[edit]

Tropical Storm Noul is forecasted to cross from the Gulf of Thailand into the Andaman Sea, retain tropical storm status and strengthen further in the Bay of Bengal while heading towards eastern India. -- グリフオーザー (talk) 08:09, 16 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah it looks like an interesting system thus ive started the article (in sandbox) up already. Just one thing though will it be assigned the designation of BOB 07 2008? by the IMD ? Jason Rees (talk) 17:17, 16 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I think the IMD will assign it as BOB07-2008 once it crosses Thailand. -- グリフオーザー (talk) 19:15, 16 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks Voffa i thought as much but wanted confirmation by another editorJason Rees (talk) 02:40, 17 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Andaman Sea, I thought it was the Arabian Sea?--Elena85 1959 Pacific Hurricane Season 18:18, 16 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Set up of the NIO (from east to west) Arabian Peninsula - Arabian Sea - India - Bay of Bengal - Andaman Sea - Malay Peninsula Cyclonebiskit (talk) 18:23, 16 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Let's try to keep discussion related to the article. Thanks, –Juliancolton Tropical Cyclone 18:56, 16 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
How could I have mixed that up, my grandparents are from the area that was where Khai-Muk made landfall.--Elena85 1959 Pacific Hurricane Season 19:34, 16 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Khai-Muk image

[edit]

I found an image of Khai-Muk . It is called cimss.ssec.wisc.edu/tropic/real-time/indian/images/xxirmet5bbm.jpg, and I wanted to know if it would be good for an image of the storm. Does anyone agree? 76.235.205.44 (talk) 15:03, 22 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Cyclonic Storm Rashmi

[edit]

A RSMC preliminary report is available -Ramisses (talk) 15:03, 24 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Ive Webcited it here - Do the IMD issue TCR's or is this just a one off? Jason Rees (talk) 15:11, 24 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I really don't know. -Ramisses (talk) 01:55, 25 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Ok thanks Ramisses Jason Rees (talk) 14:01, 25 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

RSMC IMD Cyclones Report 2007

[edit]

[3] how to archive this report. 2008 report will be released this january. Is it possible in Webcitation praddy06 (talk) 05:45, 26 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

WebCite doesn't seem to work with this. I think people will just have to save it to their hard drive until something else works. Potapych (talk) 05:52, 26 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I converted the PDF to HTML using a tool. It doesn't look very pretty (especially tables) and it lacks images, but it might be enough. -- RattleMan 08:34, 26 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

ACE index Removal from NIO seasons from 1999 - 2008 sesaon

[edit]

Hurricanehink has removed ACE index from season 1999 to 2008 citing the reason ACE - general agreement not to use it outside of NHC basins. if thats the case let me know. Cyclonebiskit in my taky page has posted that he is updating it using an excel document and the JTWC advisory data. if thats the case we can use ACE index in NIO basins praddy06 (talk) 5:12, December 03, 2008

We've come to a basic conclusion. ACE will not be used in non-NHC areas as it is not used by the RSMCs. Jason Rees has created a second season effects table which was designed for non-NHC basins, as it excludes ACE. It's still being worked on so it won't be put into articles just yet, the available example is on the 2007-08 South Pacific cyclone season. After this post, the ACE is being removed from this article. Cyclonebiskit (talk) 05:37, 3 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Main article for Nisha

[edit]

I think that Cyclonic storm Nisha has caused enough impact and deaths to deserve a main article, although i'm not sure if everyone will agree. Thoughts? 99.52.152.91 (talk) 23:30, 4 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It's already being worked on. Cyclonebiskit (talk) 23:31, 4 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Oh. I also think that storm that flooded Yemen should have a main article as well, rather than a see also page. 99.52.152.91 (talk) 10:59, 5 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Nisha will have the main article no matter what, they use the names here only once.--Irmela08 15:57, 6 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Actually, Nisha should have an article, not a main article, Irmela. The name Nisha will also be used in the South Pacific sometime soon, as it is only 6 names ahead of Hettie. 76.235.163.187 (talk) 15:05, 1 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

We now have articles on Deep Depression ARB02 and Nisha.

i got a image of 07B is it legal to put this image 4th http://rapidfire.sci.gsfc.nasa.gov/realtime/single.php?2008339/crefl2_143.A2008339073501-2008339074000.4km.jpg and on 5th http://rapidfire.sci.gsfc.nasa.gov/realtime/single.php?2008340/crefl1_143.A2008340051500-2008340052000.4km.jpg praddy06 (talk) 6:06, December 06, 2008

Yes, those images are from NASA (free-use). Upload the first one, it's better. Cyclonebiskit (talk) 18:16, 6 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Article for Khai-muk

[edit]

Just to let others know, I'm currently working on an article for Khai-muk. I should have the article done either today or tomorrow. Cyclonebiskit 21:42, 1 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

It'll take longer than I've stated above. Cyclonebiskit 16:57, 4 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Mekkhala and Noul

[edit]

[4] says they are in this basin. —Preceding unsigned comment added by HurricaneSpin (talkcontribs)

NOAA is not reliable enough for this basin - Both RSMC Tokyo and RSMC New-Delhi state that niether Maysak or Noul or Mekkhala passed 100E and moved into the NIO an Nargis did not move into the WPAC.Jason Rees (talk) 23:52, 6 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Edit to Very Severe Cyclonic Storm Nargis

[edit]

There were two references in support of the fatality count and damage estimate. One is no longer found, the second cited 351 deaths. I removed both, and replaced with a better reference, then updated the death count to match the cite. This is the same cite I added to Cyclone Nargis, for the same reasons.--SPhilbrickT 14:53, 16 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
