A couple of references
[edit]Looking into these earthquakes, I found two references:
- La actividad séismica en el Archipiélago filipino durante el año 1897, by José Coronas, Manila Observatory, in spanish
- Volcanoes and seismic centers of the Philippine Archipelago, by Miguel Saderra Masó, in english
The English-language reference reports some material from the Spanish reference, and adds other material. I'm not sure how much should be incorporated into this article. I can work on extracting some information from the Coronas pamphlet if desired. Argyriou (talk) 18:03, 29 June 2015 (UTC)
- Thanks, the Masó reference looks useful, I can't see enough of the other book to comment on that. I've found Catalogue of Violent and Destructive Earthquakes in the Philippines" also by Masó. Together with the NGDC source that should give a reasonable amount of information to produce a damage section. My current problem is to find a source for the tectonic setting - I must have looked at more than 50 papers, but none of them refer to the area of 1897 earthquakes specifically, so it will have to be quite general. - I've added a little from Coronas about damage to buildings, and from Saderra Masó about the tsunami, to the article, and added cleaned-up references. Coronas has some more information about the tectonic setting, but I'd need to sit down and translate - I think he gives a rough epicenter.
- Also, should this be "Mindanao Earthquakes", or "Basilan Earthquakes", since the epicenter was almost definitely closer to Basilan? I've created 1897 Basilan Earthquakes as a redirect here. Argyriou (talk) 22:12, 21 January 2016 (UTC)
