how does the gun traverse 360° if the design is meant to use the secondary rails on the base to absorb recoil? If you got much past 45° to either side it would be putting all or most of the recoil force sideways into the rails which doesn't seem like it would work well, or be very good for the carriage, which is also much narrower laterally. If you rotated towards 180° it would be recoiling directly backwards into the forward stops. I can't really imagine why they would need to do that much anyway, and it's strange that the mount even allows for it. Is it just a possible method that b they don't really use, but in emergencies you can fire to the sides or even the rear if you accept the fact that the gun isn't going to work as well and the carriage may shift slightly?
