He is the Treasurer of Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust, which is responsible for constructing the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Temple in Ayodhya. He is the Vice President of the Shree Krishna Janmabhoomi Trust Mathura as well.[2][3] Swami Govinddev Giriji Maharaj is a practitioner of Hindu scriptures and is known for his sermons on Ramayana, Bhagavad Gita, and other ancient Hindu scriptures.[4]
Early Life and Education
[edit]Swami Shree Govinddev Giriji Maharaj was born on 25 January 1949 in a religious Brahmin family in the village of Belapur in Ahilyanagar district of Maharashtra.[5] He was named Kishore by his parents. Swamiji inherited his long family tradition of religiosity and spirituality.[1][6]
Swamiji completed his primary education in his native village of Belapur. He then joined the Tatvadnyaan Vidyapeeth established by Shri Pandurang Shastri Athawale of the Swadhyaya Parivar and obtained a Master's degree in Philosophy under his guidance.[7] Swamiji then went to Varanasi for further study of the Vedas, Upanishads, and other religious scriptures of ancient Bharath and obtained the title of 'Darshanacharya' under the guidance of the renowned Vedic scholar Vedmurti Dr. Vishwanathji Dev, and thus came to be known as Aacharya Shree Kishore Vyas.[6]
Journey
[edit]At the age of 17, Swami Shree Govinddev Giri Maharaj (then Aacharya Shree Kishore Vyas) gave his first sermon on the Bhagavad Gita in his native village Belapur. Since then, Swamiji has been giving sermons on the Bhagavad Gita, Ramayana, Mahabharata, Dnyaneshwari, Dasbodh, Yoga Vasishtha, Sri MadDevi Bhagavad, Shiv mahapurana, Hanuman Katha, Buddha Katha, etc. in Bharath and abroad for the past 60 years.[8] He is the only saint to preach on the Bhagavad Gita as well as Lord Buddha and Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.[1] In this way, he works to unite the society and awaken the feeling of patriotism, which is why he is also called 'Rashtra Sant'.
At the 'Pran Pratishtha' of the idol of Lord Shri Ram in the Shri Ram temple in Ayodhya, the Prime Minister of the country Narendra Modi broke his 11-day fast at the hands of Swami Shree Govinddev Giri Maharaj.[9]
