South Riyadh Stadium (Arabic: ملعب جنوب الرياض, romanizedmaleab janub alriyad) is a planned multi-purpose stadium located in south-west Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, connected to the Wadi Namar.[1][2] It is set to be a venue for the 2034 FIFA World Cup and has a proposed capacity of 47,060 people, where it will host fixtures in the group stage and round of 32.[1]

Description

[edit]

Construction

[edit]

Construction on the stadium will begin in 2029 and its opening will take place in 2032.[2]

The stadium's design is inspired by Salmani architecture. The design incorporates drought-resistant plants to reduce water usage and adapt to the arid climate. Rainwater harvesting systems are used for water management, while integrated solar panels provide energy.[1]

Post-2034

[edit]

Following the World Cup, the venue will serve as the home of a professional football club of the Saudi Pro League and host major sporting and entertainment events.[1]

The surrounding area will feature open spaces, marketplaces, and green spaces.
