- 1936 – The Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway inaugurates the all-diesel powered Super Chief passenger train between Chicago, Illinois, and Los Angeles, California.
- 1996 – Chicago Transit Authority reopens the Chicago 'L' Green Line after a two-year long linewide renovation and rehabilitation project.
