- 1983 - Steve Carlton agrees to a four-year, $4.15 million contract with the Philadelphia Phillies that will make him the highest-paid pitcher in MLB history.
- 1984 - Peter Ueberroth is elected to a five-year term as Commissioner of Baseball.
- 1987 - Ray Dandridge is the only player elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame by the Veterans Committee.
