History
[edit]Partridge Jewellers was founded in 1864 in England by James Timothy Partridge.[1] Then less then a decade later the family emigrated New Zealand and the workshop was also relocated to Timaru.[2] The company later relocated to Christchurch before in 1898 Linnaeus Partridge moved to Wellington and opened a workshop there.[1][2]
A silver salver from the brand was presented to Queen Elizabeth II on her 1954 Royal Tour.[2] The Cuba Street store was robbed in 1966.[3]
Partridge became the first New Zealand stockist of TAG Heur in the late 1980s.[4]
Grant Partridge purchased the business off of his father in the 1990s.[5]
In 2007 the Queen Street store paid the highest rent of any store in New Zealand.[6]
Between 2011 and 2012 the Queen Street and Newmarket stores were robbed.[7]
The Queenstown store opened in late 2012 however in 2022 it relocated premises.[8][9] In 2013 a store opened at Westfield Riccarton in Christchurch (later closed) and in 2016 a store opened in ANZ Centre in the Christchurch CBD.[10][11] In July 2018 a boutique opened at Auckland International Airport (later closed).[12] The Newmarket store relocated to Westfield Newmarket in 2021.[13] In December 2022 a new store opened at 75 Queen Street.[14]
The Newmarket store was ram raided two times in April 2024.[15]
Partridge opened a TAG Heur boutique on Auckland's Queen Street in partnership with LVMH in August 2024.[4]
Currently the company operates seven stores, four in Auckland (three on Queen Street and one at Newmarket) whilst Wellington (Lambton Quay), Christchurch (Cashel Street), and Queenstown (Rees Street) all operate one store.[1]
