Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim born on (19th April 1980) is an International Expert and thought leader in Security, Conflict Resolution, Humanitarian and Disaster Management, Development and Migration Governance. She is the former Director General of the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP). Former Federal Commissioner of the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons. She was appointed as the first female Minister of Police Affairs on August 2023. She is currently the Minister of Women Affairs in the Federal Republic of Nigeria.[1][2]

Background

Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim was raised in Abuja, Nigeria. She attended Aruwa Nursery School, Abuja and Jabi Primary School, (now, LEA Primary School, Jabi), for her nursery and primary school education before preceding to Federal Government Girls College, Bwari, Abuja for her secondary education. she graduated from University of Abuja with a degree in sociology.she received two master's degrees from Webster University, an Masters of Business Administration MBA and Masters of Art MA. She did her mandatory National Youth Service Corps at NNPC, Kaduna zonal office. She is presently engaged in pursuing a Doctoral Degree in Security and Strategic Studies in Nigerian Defense Academy. She is a fellow of several bodies Institute for Human Capital Development, Nigeria Security Institute, Certified Personnel Management Professional, and Certified SAP HCM Consultant. [3][4]

Career

Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim started her career working at Abuja Geographic Information Systems, AGIS, before moving to the United Kingdom where she worked in human resource, Business and Management before becoming a certified [SAP] HCM consultant. Sulaiman-Ibrahim joined Mary Kay and later became a senior sales director. She was a special adviser on strategic communication to the minister of state for education, Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba and she was appointed a member of the Nasarawa State economic advisory council by the Executive Governor of Nassarawa State Engr. A. A. Sule in September 2019. She also served as a visiting Lecturer at the University of Rome, Italy, and the Sultana Maccido Institute for Peace, Leadership, and Development Studies in the University of Abuja. She was recently the Director-General of the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in persons for the duration of 6 months from December 2020 to May 2021. She was the Honourable Federal Commissioner of the National Commission For Refugees Migrants And Internally Displaced Persons.

In August 2023, she was sworn in as the Minister of State for Police Affairs after being nominated by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. On October 23, 2024, during a cabinet reshuffle, she was reassigned as the Minister of Women Affairs.

Director-General of NAPTIP

On December 2020 Imaan Sulaiman Ibrahim assumed the role of Director General of the National Agency for the Prohibition of the Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) within six months she led NAPTIP, she repositioned the Agency, and reforms activities led to the upgrading of Nigeria from Tier 2 watchlist (Which attract sanctions) to Tiers 2 status (second to higher ranking) by the US Trafficking in Persons Report. She also championed the zero draft of National plan or durable solution and the review of the migration policy 2015..[5][6][7]

Commissioner National Commission for Refugees, Migrants, and Internally Displaced Persons

She reappointed as Honourable Federal Commissioner of the National Commission For Refugees, Migrants, and Internally Displaced Persons (NCFRMI). She is the championed of several innovative and impactful programmes that touched the lives of over 2 million persons of concern in Nigeria where she facilitated the passage of the NCFRMI Act 2022 into law after over 14 years of previous failed attempts. The law institutionalises and strengthens the national action for the protection and assistance of persons concern (PoC).[8][9]

Personal life

Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim was born in Jos, Plateau State, Nigeria. She is from Keffi, Nasarawa State, Nigeria. Her father was S. K. Danladi, an Abuja-based engineer and developer. Her mother is Aishatu Sulaiman Danladi, a teacher. She is the second child in a family of eight children.[3][4]
