Question
[edit]Please, add how to make the wikitable float right without "wikitable right", it'seems that wikitable broke the float style. Yug (talk) 14:32, 28 January 2011 (UTC)
How to solve problem of sorting columns
[edit]Replace any non numeric chars such as "-" by 0's. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 116.75.11.248 (talk) 09:19, 18 December 2015 (UTC)
Purpose
[edit]"A wikitable is an arrangement of columns and rows used to organize and position data."
No— that is a table. We have specific wikimarkup to create tables. wikitable
is a class with defined styling for the margin, border, header, caption and more. ---— Gadget850 (Ed) talk 23:02, 21 September 2012 (UTC)
Please help with deleting a column from a wikitable with diabolical coding...
[edit]G'day all, we could do with some expert help with deleting the first (lefthand) column of the wikitable at Comparative officer ranks of World War II. I am not the best at wikicoding and this table appears to have truly diabolical coding... No doubt it is easier than it looks, but I am a proper Luddite born in the age of tape recorders and record players and this stuff just gives me a shocking headache. Have pity on a poor code-ophobe? Thanks in anticipation... Regards, Peacemaker67 (send... over) 14:29, 15 November 2012 (UTC)
- Done I've seen much worse than that. -- John of Reading (talk) 16:21, 15 November 2012 (UTC)

Align text in a column
[edit]Is it possible to text-align a column instead of the entire table? e.g. {|class="wikitable sortable" style="text-align:center;" will center the contents of an entire table. But now I want one column of that table aligned left. The following only effects the contents of the header cell, not the entire column ! style="text-align:left; width:5%;" | test column
Conversely, if one leaves the table in its default, left-aligned state, how can I center an individual column? --Chris Murphy (talk) 03:54, 17 November 2012 (UTC)
Column widths
[edit]I had my column widths set in em and they worked fine. Then the other day they didn't, so I had to change them to px, which I don't particularly like doing. I assume that somewhere in the metawiki there was a change to css or something which impinged on me. Anyone know anything? Just curious really, as I solved the problem even though I don't like the solution.
I know there was a fairly badly received roll-out of something the other day, coincidentally simultaneous with a very short-lived edit of the {{efn}} - not short-lived enough though, as I made changes to overcome it, followed by more changes to revert.

I guess I'll answer it myself, as it doesn't seem like anyone else will. This is my thinking. An em width is font-related, and is supposed to be the width of the letter m. Similar to ex, which I don't use. However the actual space offered by 1 em seemed rather large to me, and my guess was that it was based on a size of font not actually used in the page, i.e. everything has a font-size-in-use of 85% relative to the base. My further guess is that this base font changed its size last week, from 16pt to 8 or something. Which meant that 1 em became a lot smaller. This is my guess, no proof, but it does fit the case. I have changed to px but I don't like it. That is only partly related to font size. John of Cromer in China (talk) mytime= Mon 23:41, wikitime= 15:41, 10 December 2012 (UTC)
Wikipedia:How to make a table in Wikipedia
[edit]Prpose to merge Wikipedia:How to make a table in Wikipedia here, as it is really just several examples. --— Gadget850 (Ed) talk 23:22, 9 January 2013 (UTC)
- Agree, this may of in the past fulfilled its title, but as you say, is now just examples. In this case less is more. Lee∴V (talk • contribs) 12:56, 14 January 2013 (UTC)
