Gabriele Minì (Italian pronunciation: [ɡa.briˈɛ.le miˈni]; born 20 March 2005) is an Italian racing driver set to compete in the 2025 FIA Formula 2 Championship with Prema Racing. He is the 2020 Italian F4 Champion, and was runner-up during the 2022 Formula Regional European Championship and the 2024 FIA Formula 3 Championship.[1]
Minì is a member of the Alpine Academy.[2]
Career
[edit]Karting
[edit]Minì started his karting career in 2012. His first karting title came in the Italian Championship in 2017 in the 60 Mini Class at the age of 12. The year after Minì mainly competed in international competitions, becoming champion in the WSK Super Master Series, beating Mercedes Academy driver Paul Aron among others, and finishing as runner-up in the CIK-FIA Karting World Championship. Following these achievements, Minì was signed to Nicolas Todt's All Road Management scheme.[3] 2019 would be Minì's final year in karting; he finished second in the WSK Champions Cup and the FIA Karting European Championship respectively.[4]
Lower formulae
[edit]In late January 2020 it was announced that the Italian would make his car racing debut in the Italian F4 Championship and race in two rounds of the ADAC F4 Championship for Prema Powerteam alongside Sebastian Montoya, Gabriel Bortoleto and FDA-Member Dino Beganovic.[5] Minì started his season off strongly by scoring all three pole positions at the first round in Misano, winning his first ever race in single-seaters.[6] He would not score any more podiums for five consecutive races, although he finished each one of those races in the points. The Italian collected a hattrick of podiums at the Red Bull Ring, where he also won the third race of the weekend. After further wins in Mugello and Imola Minì had amassed a sizeable gap to his title rivals behind, and after a second-place finish in race two in the penultimate weekend the Italian was crowned champion of the series.[7]
Minì also raced in two rounds of the ADAC F4 Championship, winning his first race in that series at the Nürburgring.[8] He finished tenth in the standings.
Formula Regional
[edit]2021
[edit]In December 2020 Minì took part in the post-season rookie test for the Formula Regional European Championship for ART Grand Prix alongside his F4 title rival Francesco Pizzi and Grégoire Saucy.[9] Without prior experience in a car at that level Minì completed the second-fastest laptime of the day.[10] After a second test later that month, the French outfit confirmed Minì would race with them in the 2021 season.[11][12] He started his season off by scoring his first points in race 2 of the first round, with a sixth place also giving him the distinction of being the highest-placed rookie. In the second weekend in Barcelona Minì achieved his first podium in the category in the first race, while he went on to score more points in the second race. After two tenth-placed finishes in Monaco the Italian returned to the podium in the first race at Paul Ricard. Following that Minì had his best weekend of the season at Zandvoort, where he finished second and third, whilst also being the best rookie of the event. Minì finished the season seventh overall and second behind Isack Hadjar in the rookie standings.
2022
[edit]Minì remained with ART Grand Prix for the 2022 season.[13] Though Minì won in the wet at Imola and triumphed at Le Castellet, as well as taking a total of nine podium finishes across the year, he was beaten to the title by a dominant Dino Beganovic.[14][15][16] He clinched second overall at Monza, overcoming two rivals to win the final race and move ahead of Paul Aron in the standings.[17]
2023
[edit]Minì joined Hitech Grand Prix for the 2023 Formula Regional Middle East Championship during the opening three rounds, to prepare for his main Formula 3 campaign.[18]
FIA Formula 3
[edit]2023
[edit]In September 2022, Minì took part in the FIA Formula 3 post-season test at Jerez, driving for Hitech Grand Prix, setting the fastest lap during the first day.[19][20] Minì ended up driving for the team during the 2023 FIA Formula 3 season.[21] He began the campaign by claiming pole on debut at Sakhir, but a five-second penalty for a starting grid infringement meant that a commanding race which he ended first on track culminated in eighth place on the results sheet.[22][23] The first podium of the year came during the next round in Melbourne, where Minì defended third place against Leonardo Fornaroli during the closing laps of the feature event.[24] Minì took pole at Monaco and, having resisted race-long pressure from Dino Beganovic, took his maiden FIA F3 victory.[25] A scoreless round at Barcelona was followed by second place in the Spielberg sprint race, before Minì retired on Sunday due to lap 1 contact with teammate Luke Browning.[26][27]
Minì scored points in both Silverstone races and won a tyre wear-intensive sprint in Hungary, overcoming Nikita Bedrin who had initially overtaken him at the start, which put him third in the standings.[28][29] However, Minì failed to score at Spa due to a collision with Pepe Martí on Saturday, for which the Italian received a five-place grid penalty, and not being able to start on Sunday after crashing on the sighting lap.[30][31] Despite taking sixth in the Monza sprint race Minì dropped to seventh in the standings.[32] He later took part in the post-season testing sessions with Prema Racing.[33] He set the fastest lap on both days during the Imola test.[34][35][36] Minì also raced in the Macau Grand Prix with Prema.[37]
2024
[edit]Minì reunited with Prema for the 2024 season, partnering Dino Beganovic and Arvid Lindblad.[38] He began by scoring points in each of the first three races before scoring his first podium of the year by finishing third in the Australia feature race.[39] After two sixth places at Imola Minì claimed his first pole of the season, which helped him to get back-to-back feature race wins at Monte Carlo; in doing so he took the championship lead.[40][41][42] At the next round in Barcelona however Minì went pointless, as he retired from the sprint after contact with Sebastián Montoya and dropped positions during the feature.[43][44] He bounced back with a feature race podium in Austria, having come out on top in a bout for second with teammate Beganovic, prior to regaining his championship lead with another second place at Silverstone.[45][46]
The next round in Hungary became a disappointment, as Minì failed to score points after qualifying 13th.[47] He then finished second behind Beganovic in the Spa sprint race but missed out on points again on Sunday, having been spun around at the first corner on the opening lap.[48][49] Minì qualified third at Monza and finished ninth in the sprint race, meaning that he entered the final feature race three points behind compatriot and championship leader Fornaroli.[50] Though Minì battled past Fornaroli for second in the feature race and the latter dropped to fourth by the final lap, a final-corner overtake by Fornaroli on Christian Mansell allowed him to snatch the title away from Minì by two points.[51] To compound matters, Minì was later disqualified from the race due to his tyre pressures being below the minimum limit.[52] He nevertheless finished second in the drivers' standings.[53]
FIA Formula 2
[edit]2024
[edit]Two weeks following the Formula 3 season finale, Minì would make his Formula 2 debut in Baku for Prema Racing, in place of Oliver Bearman, as the Briton was called to stand in for Haas in Formula One.[54] He finished third in the sprint race but crashed out of the feature race.[55][56]
2025
[edit]Minì made a full step up to Formula 2 in 2025, remaining with Prema Racing where he partners his former Formula 3 teammate Sebastián Montoya.[57]
Formula One
[edit]At the start of 2023, Minì was announced to be joining the Alpine Academy.[58]
Formula E
[edit]In May 2024, Minì would make his Formula E debut during the rookie test at the Tempelhof Airport Street Circuit, for the Nissan Formula E Team.[59][60]
