Dino Beganovic (Bosnian: Dino Beganović, pronounced [ˈdino bɛˈɡanovitɕ]; born 19 January 2004) is a Swedish and Bosnian racing driver, who is set to compete in the 2025 FIA Formula 2 Championship for Hitech Pulse-Eight.
He is a race winner in the FIA Formula 3 Championship, finishing sixth in both seasons he competed in 2023 and 2024 with Prema Racing. He was the 2022 Formula Regional European champion. Beganovic is a member of the Ferrari Driver Academy.[1]
Career
[edit]Karting
[edit]Beganovic started karting in 2011. He won multiple national championships, such as the Swedish OK Junior karting category in 2018. In 2019, Beganovic won the OK category in both the Swedish and Italian championships and finished second in WSK Euro Series the same year.[2]
Lower formulae
[edit]In 2020 Beganovic made his single-seater debut, competing in the Italian F4 Championship with Prema Powerteam.[3] There, he won one race at Imola and finished third in the standings, only behind Francesco Pizzi and champion Gabriele Minì. He also participated in selected rounds of the ADAC Formula 4 with the Italian team, scoring twelve points across two weekends.
Formula Regional European Championship
[edit]2021
[edit]Beganovic made his Formula Three debut in 2021, competing in both the F3 Asian Championship and the Formula Regional European Championship with Prema.[4] Despite only racing for three of the five rounds in the Asian series, the Swede achieved four podiums and five Rookie Cup victories, and ended up seventh in the overall standings. He then competed in his first season in the Formula Regional European Championship, where he achieved two rookie victories, one podium, and one pole position.
2022
[edit]Beganovic remained in the Formula Regional European Championship with Prema Powerteam.[5] Before his main campaign, he took part in the Formula Regional Asian Championship with Mumbai Falcons.[6] He took one victory and three further second-places to end fifth overall.[7] He then participated in his second Formula Regional campaign, taking four wins and thirteen podiums to win the championship with one race to spare.[8]
2023
[edit]At the start of 2023 before his main F3 campaign, Beganovic returned to the newly rebranded Formula Regional Middle East Championship with Mumbai Falcons.[9]
FIA Formula 3 Championship
[edit]2023
[edit]On 20 September, Prema announced that Beganovic would be participating in a three-day FIA F3 test at Jerez, alongside Paul Aron and Zak O'Sullivan.[10] A month later, Beganovic was confirmed to drive for the team in the FIA Formula 3 Championship, having the "FDA [do] everything to get 2023 F3 seat at Prema".[11][12] The campaign began with promise, as the Swede took his maiden podium during the feature race at the Bahrain season opener, having come through from his starting spot of eighth.[13][14] A disappointing round in Melbourne described by Beganovic as "not easy" was followed by his second feature race podium at Monaco, where the Prema driver made use of having set the fastest lap in his qualifying group to take second place on Sunday, half a second shy of Gabriele Minì.[15] Barcelona, described by Beganovic as "not [his] strongest circuit", yielded a mixed bag, as the Swede compensated for a retirement in the sprint race owing to a collision caused by Grégoire Saucy to finish third during the feature race, which moved him to third in the standings.[16][17][18] At the next round in Austria, he qualified on the front row, though he dropped back on Sunday due to high amounts of tyre degradation, which he explained had come as a result of him pushing "way too hard" in the early stages of the contest.[19]
In qualifying for the event at Silverstone, an engine issue befell the FDA member's car before he could set a flying lap, forcing him to start from last place. Despite gaining a total of 33 places throughout the two races, Beganovic was forced to cope with his first non-scoring round of the campaign.[20] A swift bounce-back in the form of a second place in the feature race at the Hungaroring followed, with the Swede completing a Prema one-two, trailing teammate O'Sullivan by two seconds at the finish.[21]
Beganovic remained with Prema for post-season testing in Jerez, where he set the fastest time overall on the second day.[22][23][24]
2024
[edit]Beganovic remained with Prema Racing for the 2024 season.[25]
FIA Formula 2 Championship
[edit]2024
[edit]Beganovic made the step up to Formula 2 for the final two rounds of the 2024 season with DAMS Lucas Oil, replacing Juan Manuel Correa and partnering Jak Crawford.[26]
2025
[edit]For the 2025 season, Beganovic switched teams to join Hitech Grand Prix in what is set to be his first full season in the championship, and partners Williams junior Luke Browning.[27]
Formula One
[edit]At the start of 2020 and his single-seater career, Beganovic was announced to be joining the Ferrari Driver Academy.[28] During the Covid-19 lockdown period, Beganovic raced for Ferrari in the Bahrain Virtual GP.[29]
Personal life
[edit]Beganovic was born in Linköping, Sweden. His parents, Fikret and Mirnesa emigrated to Sweden from Bosnia and Herzegovina before he was born. He has a younger brother, Emir.[30]
In addition to his native Swedish and Bosnian languages, Beganovic also speaks English and Italian.
Beganovic is an avid sim-racer and was a member of the famed Team Wrongline. He participated in many races and social events for the time during the COVID-19 pandemic.
