Robert Duvall insisted on performing his own vocals during the film's songs, a fact which is a major part of the Tender Mercies article, for which an audio clip is necessary. Additionally, the specific song Duvall sings in the clip includes lyrics that are symbolic of the love and guidance his wife provided him, which allowed him to find redemption; this, too, is a major part of the Tender Mercies article and requires the use of the audio clip. At a length of less than 30 seconds, the clip does not infringe on the commercial value of the original music recording or the film.
