Wrongful detention is similar to, but distinct from both hostage diplomacy and arbitrary arrest. It is a broader term which encompasses aspects of both but does not necessarily require arrest or that something be given in exchange for the return of the affected person. It is an important distinction, particularly in Western countries, where citizens and/or residents are often wrongfully detained in some way. My hope is that this article will help bring clarity to this type of activity.
I had originally planned on adding content to the Arbitrary arrest article, however since being arrested is not a requirement of being wrongfully detained, the two concepts did not seem compatible under the same article. ThomasVenelli (talk) 01:49, 3 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
