ZH Magazine is a nonprofit digital platform dedicated to showcasing contemporary Iranian art and culture globally. Founded in 2014 in Los Angeles, California, it highlights Persian visual arts, music, film, architecture, and literature. Since its inception, ZH Magazine has featured over hundreds of Iranian and Afghan artists through interviews, curated articles, and artistic collaborations.
The magazine aims to bridge the gap between Iranian artists—both within Iran and the diaspora—and the global creative community, fostering cultural exchange and artistic dialogue.
History
[edit]ZH Magazine was founded in 2014 by a group of Iranian artists, designers, and cultural advocates based in Los Angeles. The name "ZH" is inspired by the Persian letter ژ, symbolizing the fusion of tradition and modernity in Persian artistic expression.
Originally focused on written interviews and cultural commentary, the platform has evolved to include multimedia features, artist spotlights, and curated exhibitions, expanding its reach within the international art scene.[1]
Mission
[edit]ZH Magazine's mission is to promote Iranian and Persian art beyond geographical and political boundaries. It provides a non-political, inclusive space for artists, featuring interviews, cultural critiques, and event coverage to celebrate Persian creativity worldwide.
Impact and contributions
[edit]ZH Magazine has featured over 400 Iranian and Afghan artists across various disciplines, including visual arts, film, music, and literature. The platform has played a role in increasing the visibility of these artists within the global art community. Some featured artists have reported that their exposure through ZH Magazine contributed to opportunities such as international exhibitions, art sales, and cross-cultural collaborations.[2] Additionally, the platform has indirectly supported the expansion of Iranian contemporary art in global galleries and auction spaces.
