Wang Zhongwei (Chinese: 王仲玮; pinyin: Wáng Zhòngwěi; born 17 July 1995) is a Chinese racing driver. He is currently competing in the 2025 Formula Regional Middle East Championship with Origine Motorsport.[1]

Career

[edit]

Single-seaters

[edit]

2023

[edit]

Wang made his single-seater debut in the 2023 Formula Regional Middle East Championship, driving for Chinese team R&B Racing.[2] He had a tough first venture into open wheel racing, failing to score points over the course of the six races he contested, as he finished 34th in the standings, although he did finish above his full-time teammate, Han Cenyu.[3] Later in the season, Wang made an appearance in the 2023 Formula Regional Japanese Championship, with HELM Motorsports.[4] He scored his first points in single-seaters, finishing 7th and 6th in the final two races of the round at Okayama.[5] Wang then contested the full 2023 Formula 4 South East Asia Championship season, returning to R&B Racing.[6] He had a much more competitive season, with a fourth-placed finish in the first race of the season proving to be his best result of the season, as he took 11th in the standings.[7]

2024

[edit]

For 2024, it was announced the Wang would continue to compete in the Formula Regional Middle East Championship, for its 2024 edition.[8] The 2024 season would prove another difficult season for Wang, as he finished last in the championship, finishing no higher than 20th over the 15 races that the championship competed at.[9] He then competed in the 2024 Formula Regional Japanese Championship for two rounds of the season, this time driving for Sky Motorsports.[10] He scored points in all but one race, with a best result of fourth in the third race of the opening round.[11]

2025

[edit]

In January 2025, it was confirmed that Wang would remain in the Formula Regional Middle East Championship for a third year, driving for the renamed Origine Motorsport.[12]

GT racing

[edit]

2023

[edit]

In late 2022, GetSpeed Performance announced that Wang would drive for the team in the 2023 Asian Le Mans Series, in the GT category. His teammates were fellow Chinese driver Zhou Bihuang, and experienced Swiss driver Alexandre Imperatori.[13] He had a disappointing season, failing to score points in the championship and securing a best result of 12th at the Yas Marina Circuit, as his team finished 20th in the GT standings.[14]

2024

[edit]

Wang would continue to race in GTs in 2024, securing a place on the grid for the 2024 GT World Challenge Asia, driving for Climax Racing in the Pro-Am category, alongside experienced racers Ralf Aron and Jules Gounon.[15] Wang would go on to contribute to eight top 10 finishes from the first eight races, and alongside Aron he secured his first class victory in the series, winning from pole in the final race at Shanghai.[16] With this victory, he lead both himself and his team to ninth in the championship standings.[17][18]
