The untitled Mario Kart game, colloquially referred to as Mario Kart 9,[1] is an upcoming kart racing video game being developed and published by Nintendo, and will be released at an unknown date as one of the first titles for the Nintendo Switch 2. It retains the staple Mario Kart series game mechanics.

Development

[edit]

In 2021, it was reported by an insider known by Markomaro that a new racing game had been in development at Nintendo for "at least two [to] three years."[2] On January 7, 2022, Dr. Serkan Toto stated that a new entry in the Mario Kart series was "in development right now and Nintendo could tease it this year".[3]

On January 16, 2025, the Nintendo Switch 2 was unveiled, alongside a first look at the untitled Mario Kart game. The game was noted for its unique art style, with influence taken from both Super Mario Bros. Wonder and The Super Mario Bros. Movie.[4] Ryan Dinsale, writing for IGN, speculated that the game may introduce 24-player multiplayer to the series.[5]
