Thomas Ogungbangbe (born October 5, 1967) is a Nigerian business leader, scholar, and philanthropist. He is the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of CITA Petroleum^[1]^[2]^[3]

He is the pioneer Chairman of Aviation Fuel Marketers Association of Nigeria (AFMAN)^[4] and is known for his significant contributions to the aviation fuel industry in Nigeria and his extensive philanthropic efforts.^[5]

Early Life and Education

Dr. Thomas Olaleye Ogungbangbe was born in Iloko Ijesa, present-day Osun State, but grew up in Iragbiji, where he had primary and secondary education. He holds a Ph.D. in Strategic Marketing (2017) and an M.Phil in Strategic Marketing (2015) from Babcock University. He also earned an MBA from the University of Ilorin in 1998 and an Executive Master's in Project Management from the Project Management College, London, in 2008. Ogungbangbe has completed numerous international trainings and certifications in aviation fuel management and leadership, including programs at Saïd Business School, Oxford; Harvard Business School; and the International Air Transport Association (IATA).

Career

Early Career

Dr. Ogungbangbe began his career in the pharmaceutical industry, serving as a Consumer Product Manager at Pfizer Plc (1994–2000). He later transitioned to the banking sector as Head of Consumer Banking at Gateway Bank Plc (2000–2002).

Aviation Industry

His significant contributions to the aviation fuel industry began with roles such as Aviation Business Manager at National Oil & Chemical Marketing Ltd and Aviation Fuel Director at Sahara Energy Group. By 2013, he became the CEO and Managing Director of CITA Aviation Fueling Company, where he has led the company to become Nigeria's largest aviation fueling company by market spread. Dr. Ogungbangbe has made significant contributions to the aviation fuel industry in Nigeria.^[6] Under his leadership, CITA Petroleum has achieved numerous industry accolades and expanded its market presence.^[7]^[8]

Philanthropy

In 2022, he funded the construction of the Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport Road Network, valued at N300 million.^[9] In 2017, he awarded a $100,000 research grant to the University of Ilorin for a study on microbial contamination in aviation fuel, which was published by Lambert Academic in Germany.^[10]^[11]
