Stephanie Ringel (2 July 1970-) is a German-Swiss journalist, entrepreneur, and author. She has been a reporter for the wide-circulation Swiss tabloid SonntagsBlick magazine. [1] Likewise, she has been the first female cross-departmental author at the leading Swiss periodical Schweizer Illustrierte. [2] Presently, Ringel is the editor-in-chief of the Swiss edition of the design magazine Schöner Wohnen. From 2013, Ringel owns and manages the communication agency Stephanie Ringel Media.
Biography and education
[edit]Ringel’s early years have been spent in Alsfeld in Hesse in West Germany. She has studied for a Bachelor’s Degree of Business Administration at a professional management college [Verwaltungsfachhochschule] in Giessen, Hesse, Germany. During her Bachelor’s studies, she has been working as a cultural manager for the Alsfeld, Hesse, Germany, municipal administration in the Social and Cultural Affairs department. Her undergraduate education has encompassed courses of study in Political Science, Law, and Art History at the University of Trier, Trier, Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany. Similarly, she has been on a one-year exchange program at the University of Sophia Antipolis in Nice, France.[citation needed]
Professional career
[edit]Between 1999 and 2002 Ringel worked as a freelance journalist for the daily newspaper Trierischer Volksfreund and as a correspondent reporting from Trier for the Luxemburger Wort. She also made contributions for the weekend edition Bild am Sonntag of the national newspaper Bild.[3]
In 2003 she moved to Switzerland to work for the Swiss media company Ringier AG in Zurich. To date, she has both the German and Swiss citizenship. Ringel has worked as a reporter for Sonntagsblick magazine in the society and culture section, where she had her own interview format “Sonntags bei...”.[4] The section has consisted of interviews and background reports on relevant public figures such as: Herzog & de Meuron, Christo & Jeanne Claude, Peter Zumthor, Alfredo Häberli, Donna Leon.
In 2010, Ringel has transferred to Ringier’s magazine Schweizer Illustrierte[5] At this magazine, she has been contributing writing about topics related to society, education, and religion. As part of this appointment, Ringel has been conducting interviews with prominent contemporary figures. For the 100th anniversary [6] of the magazine, Ringel has led the production of a 10-part series on how the magazine has documented the contemporary history and media development through its reporting.
Between 2011-2013 Ringel was simultaneously an author at Ringier’s corporate magazine DOMO and editor-in-chief ad interim from 2012 onward.[7] The magazine has won the European Excellence Award in 2011. [8]
In 2013 Ringel left Ringier AG [9] , in order to found the communication and editorial content agency Stephanie Ringel Media. [10] At the time of this writing, she holds the position of the editor-in-chief of the Swiss edition of the design magazine Schöner Wohnen. Ringel, likewise, makes contributions to various periodical culture-related publications, such as Hochparterre[11] and Tagesanzeiger.[12] In 2014 Ringel led the relaunch of the Swiss parents' magazine Fritz+Fränzi.[13][14] Ringel’s work primarily revolves around design, women in the design sector, and architecture topics.[15]
Other Activities
[edit]Since 2016 Ringel has been an advocate for raising ovarian cancer awareness at the Manja Gideon Foundation. In light of this activity, Ringel also has written a biographical work ("Traces" Manja Gideon) the narrative of which focuses on the founder’s cancer experience.[16]
Ringel is an external expert and jury member in the field of Industrial Design at the University of Applied Sciences and Arts Northwestern Switzerland FHNW, which has schools across Aargau, Basel-Landschaft, Basel-Stadt, and Solothurn cantons in Switzerland.[17]
