Sherif Elfayoumy is an American computer engineering researcher and academician. He currently serves as the Steel Dynamics Dean of the College of Engineering, Technology, and Computer Science,[1], a position he assumed in July 2023.
Early Life and Education
Elfayoumy earned a Bachelor of Science in Electrical engineering with a concentration in Telecommunications and Electronics in Cairo, Egypt. He subsequently received a Master's degree in Computer science and a Ph.D. in Computer Science and Engineering from the Speed School at the University of Louisville, Louisville, Kentucky, in 1998 and 2000, respectively. His doctoral dissertation, "An Agent-based Approach for Online Performance Tuning of Parallel and Distributed Computation," was advised by Professor James H. Graham.
Career
Elfayoumy began his academic career as a tenure-track assistant professor in the School of Computing at the University of North Florida.[2]. During this time, he also served as Chief information officer for two companies: Conq[3] in Jacksonville, Florida, and Quture[4] in Daytona Beach, Florida. He holds three patents.
At the University of North Florida, Elfayoumy secured several federal funding awards and raised private funds to establish new facilities and endowments.[5][6][7][8] Under his leadership, the school of Computing also received the DSH-NSA designation as a program of academic excellence in Cyber Defense.[9][10] He supported the promotion of STEM education and careers, particularly for women and students from underrepresented backgrounds.[11]
In 2023, Elfayoumy was selected through a national search to become the Steel Dynamics Dean of the College of Engineering, Technology, and Computer Science at Purdue University Fort Wayne.[12][13] His appointment was confirmed by the Purdue University Board of Trustees in July 2023

. In 2024, he completed the Leadership Fort Wayne program[15] and was inducted into the New Economy and Innovation Council of the Northeast Indiana Regional Partnership.[16]
