Draft:Marcus Brüggen
Submission declined on 6 February 2025 by Idoghor Melody (talk). This submission is not adequately supported by reliable sources. Reliable sources are required so that information can be verified. If you need help with referencing, please see Referencing for beginners and Citing sources. This submission's references do not show that the subject qualifies for a Wikipedia article—that is, they do not show significant coverage (not just passing mentions) about the subject in published, reliable, secondary sources that are independent of the subject (see the guidelines on the notability of people). Before any resubmission, additional references meeting these criteria should be added (see technical help and learn about mistakes to avoid when addressing this issue). If no additional references exist, the subject is not suitable for Wikipedia.

Marcus Brüggen (born 25. November 1972 in Cologne) is a German high-energy astrophysicist and full professor at the University of Hamburg[1]. His research includes the exploration of the low-frequency radio sky, in particular the study of phenomena such as feedback by active galactic nuclei in galaxy clusters and diffuse radio sources, so-called radio relics and radio halos[2], in galaxy clusters[3]. He is also internationally recognised for the study of the origin and properties of cosmic magnetic fields, the acceleration and transport of cosmic rays, the cycle of baryons, active galactic nuclei and properties of Dark Matter[4][5]. Most recently, he has taken an interest in the development of machine learning techniques for astronomy. In the excellence cluster, he is a coordinator for gravitational wave research [6]. With S. Rosswog he has published a textbook "Introduction to High-energy Astrophysics" published by Cambridge University Press[7].
He was the driving force behind establishing LOFAR in Germany[8].
Education
[edit]Marcus Brüggen went to Trinity College and received his bachelor, masters and PhD degrees from Cambridge University.
He was a Junior Research fellow at Churchill College, Cambridge and a postdoctoral fellow at the Max-Planck Institute for Astrophysics in Garching, Germany. He was a founding faculty of the private Jacobs University in Bremen, Germany before he joined the University of Hamburg.
Personal Life
[edit]Brüggen is an avid runner and mountain biker. He also has a strong interest in tennis and snooker.
