M&G Volleyball School is an Italian professional men's volleyball team in Grottazzolina, Italy: They currently play in SuperLega since 2024/2025.
History
[edit]M&G Volleyball School was born in 2008 merging the two already existing volleyball clubs: Wild Volley Grottazzolina and Montegiorgio Volley. The M&G acronym comes from the two town initials[1]. The team was admitted in Serie C league in the 2008-2009 season, immediately getting the promotion in Serie B2 for the 2009-2010 season.[2]
M&G remains in the quarter division of the Italian league for 5 years, until it was promoted in the Serie B1[2] during season 2013-2014, by getting the first place
After the first year, it closed in the middle of the table. In the 2015-2016 season, it closed the championship in second place in its round, getting access to the Serie A2, where it started to play in the 2016-2017[2] season. In the 2017-2018 season, it participated for the first time in the Italian Cup League A2, getting eliminated in the quarterfinals.
At the end of the next season, because of the reorganization of the whole championship, it was relegated to the Serie A3 category.
In the next three seasons it gets always in the first place in its own round at the end of the regular season. In the 2021-2022 season it wins the promoting play-off, achieving again the promotion in Serie A2, meanwhile getting in the Serie A3 Italian Cup finals and winning it. Afterwards, in the 2023-2024 season it achieves again the promoting play-off, becoming promoted in SuperLega[3] (or Serie A1), where it plays in the 2024-2025 season.
