The Libyan Technology Foundation (or formerly: Libyan Information and Communications Technology Organization) is a Libyan non-profit organization, established in 2020 with the objectives of spreading technical awareness and awareness of technology-related legislation, and supporting the development of the communications and information technology sector in Libya. It seeks to achieve this by exploiting local resources, capabilities and Libyan competencies to build a better society and enable Libyan citizens to benefit from digital services, in line with the rapid development in the world of technology.[1] It is a member of the Internet Society.[2][3][4]

Foundation contributions

[edit]

Since the beginning of its work, the Foundation has contributed to the development of digital legislation. The Foundation has also prepared the general policy for e-mail for Libyan institutions, which in turn contributes to enhancing effective digital communication in Libya and providing a safe and reliable environment for the exchange of data and information, which was approved by the Government of National Unity.[5]  Within the framework of legislation and regulation, the Foundation has also prepared a guide and regulation to organize social media for government institutions in cooperation with the Government Communication Center.

In terms of the Foundation’s work in developing and supporting youth and holding events, the Government of National Unity adopted the first of June of each year as a national day to celebrate information technology after a proposal was submitted by the Libyan Technology Foundation.

In order to support youth and spread knowledge, the Foundation provides professional training for young graduates in the fields of information technology and engineering. The Foundation also cooperates with the Internet Society [6] [7] in Libya to organize monthly sessions under the "Spaces project" to discuss Libyan Internet issues, share opinions, and spread knowledge .

The Foundation has helped more than 30 civil society organizations by providing Microsoft 365 for Business services for free, providing them with training, and introducing them to the Microsoft 365 work environment.

As part of the Foundation’s work to improve the work of Libyan institutions, the Foundation announced that it has created an acceptable use policy for Microsoft 365 programs to enable Libyan institutions to make the most of Microsoft 365 technologies in a safe and effective manner.
