This submission's references do not show that the subject qualifies for a Wikipedia article—that is, they do not show significant coverage (not just passing mentions) about the subject in published, reliable, secondary sources that are independent of the subject (see the guidelines on the notability of films). Before any resubmission, additional references meeting these criteria should be added (see technical help and learn about mistakes to avoid when addressing this issue). Lake George, 2024 American independent thriller film written, directed, produced by and starring Hamid Antonio Castro. The film weaves a taut narrative around two protagonists-a just-released convict and a would-be father-who need to raise $100,000 in one night to save the execution of an incarcerated member of the family.[1] Based on true events, critically acclaimed Lake George is a movie about unflinching storytelling, emotional depth, nuanced moral dilemmas, and human resilience. It had its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival in 2024 and releases theatrically in January 2025. This is an independent film, since Castro himself fully financed it after refusing offers from streaming platforms due to his desire for full creative control. The film was shot in Orange County, New York in late 2023.[2]
Plot
[edit]Against the New York underworld, Lake George churns a story of two desperate men bound by circumstance into an impossible odds situation. A convict just released after being implicated in an unsuccessful heist and a father-to-be race against time to save a loved one from the danger and deception web. The film explores themes of loyalty, sacrifice, and the lengths people will go to protect those they care about.

Production
[edit]Hamid Antonio Castro, born in Queens to immigrant parents from both Iran and Colombia, is a first-time director who found his way into the movie business after enjoying great success as an entrepreneur. Prior to being a filmmaker, Castro was a celebrity fitness professional who managed businesses that tended to celebrities. In 2017, he sold his business and relocated to Colombia to focus on screenwriting and filmmaking, self-learning the craft over four years.
Lake George was independently financed, with a budget of $2 million, with full artistic control for Castro. He is the writer, director, producer, and lead actor. As such, this film was very personal to him.
The film was shot on location in New York, something for which Castro drew upon his own experiences and knowledge of the city to craft an authentic setting.
Reception
[edit]Lake George premiered at the Cannes Film Festival in 2024 to critical acclaim. Reviewers praise it for its engaging storyline, raw performances, and tight pacing. On social media platforms such as YouTube and Instagram, the trailer and other promos are getting a good response.
