He became a lecturer at the University of Trier and a freelance social planner.[1]

He won all electoral districts and received 66.9 percent of the vote. This was the first time since 1945 that Trier was not governed by a CDU mayor. In the new election of Trier's mayor in 2014, Jensen did not run for a second term for reasons of age and therefore left office on 31 March 2015.[3]
