Keep Refrigerated was an avant-garde art club located in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, during the year 1991. The club gained recognition as a significant cultural hub, as documented in a New York Magazine article.[1] It was shut down by the New York City Fire Department within its first year of operation.
History
[edit]Keep Refrigerated was founded in 1991 as an experimental art space, providing a platform for musicians, and other creatives in Williamsburg. The building that housed the club was a former meat packing facility, where several meat packing plants used to operate.
Description
[edit]The club included rotating installations of artworks, while rock, noise and indie music played. It also included multiple heaters, smashed television sets, and projections of cartoons.[1]
Performances
[edit]During its year of operation, the space showcased performances such as indie music and Japanese Butoh.
