Joshua Simmons "Mr.4.2" (born April 15, 1995) is an American professional football wide receiver who most recently played for the Pittsburgh Maulers[1] of the United States Football League (USFL); now known as the United Football League (UFL). He played college football at The College of St. Scholastica [2], Navarro College [3], and Prairie View A&M University (PVAMU).[4]

Early Life

[edit]

Joshua was born in Houston on April 15, 1995, to Raquel and Bobby Simmons. It was in those early years that Simmons was introduced to the game of football by his mother. She noticed Simmons had a strong throwing arm after playing catch with him a few times. So when he was 4 years old, his mother, with the blessing of Simmons great-grandmother Agnes Johnson, signed him up to play football for the South West Steers, where he would become a QB for the team. Growing up Joshua also played soccer (futbol), basketball, and baseball.

Joshua attended Kate Bell Elementary, Johnston Middle School (Meyerland Performing & Visual Arts Middle School), Dowling Middle School (Lawson Middle School), and Jack Yates High School.

High School Career

[edit]

During his time at Jack Yates High School in Third Ward Houston, Texas Joshua played for Coach Ronald Miller. In 2012-2013, his Senior year, he recorded 780 Passing Yards, 6 Passing TDs, 600 Rushing Yards, 9 Rushing TDs , and 1 INT as his team QB; he also played Wide Receiver and Cornerback. [5]

College Career

[edit]

Simmons enrolled in the College of St Scholastica during his freshman year and played two sports: Football and track.  During his freshman year, beginning in his freshman year Simmons started on the Saints football team and played wide receiver for a team that won the 2013 Football Championship.  Simmons also held the record in track and field for the men's 60m dash indoor[6]. Simmons transferred back to Texas and attended Navarro College, graduated, and was offered a full scholarship to Prairie View A & M University, where he played two additional years after Red Shirting in the 2015 season[7]. Joshua also ran track at PVAMU. [8]

Professional Career

[edit]

After playing his last two years of collegiate football at PVAMU, Joshua declared for the 2018 NFL Draft, where he would go undrafted. During his pro-day at PVAMU in front of NFL scouts, he posted a forty-time score of 4.25. This helped earn Joshua an invitation to the 2018 Buffalo Bills Rookie minicamp[9][10]. He was not chosen for the final roster. Later that year, he signed with the Berlin Rebels of the German Football League (GFL), where he played as a WR and Return Specialist for the 2018 GFL season.

2018

[edit]

In 2018, Joshua went undrafted and was invited to the Bills rookie minicamp, where he was not chosen for the main roster. Later that year, Joshua would sign with the GFL Berlin Rebels offensive player of the week. As a team, they finished #3 overall.[11][12][13][14]

2020

[edit]

Before the season could start, the COVID-19 pandemic happened, and the season ended before it started. Joshua did not get the chance to suit up for the BC Lions [15].

2021

[edit]

In 2021, Joshua was signed to the TSL Jousters, where he would wear number 37, and his head coach was Kevin Gilbride and his QB was Luis Perez. Joshua finished the season with 4 TDs, and his team, the Jousters, made it to the Mega Bowl, where they would fall to the Lineman.[16][17][18][19][20]
