American Hungarians in New York Hungarian immigrants first settled in New York in 1870, along the Second Avenue, in the vicinity between the 1. , 10. , 55. and 72 streets. In 1910 there are 110000 Hungarians in Manhattan. As the Lower East Side quickly overpopulated, hungarians headed for Yorkville. The classic Hungarian Quarter was founded along the 2. Avenue, the a 79. and 82. streets. The second half of the 1950s was the heyday of the Quartes. The Center of Little Hungary was the 82. street, still bearing the name "King of Hungary" too. [1]
