Harmeet Singh (born 20 March 1988) is recognized as the first Pakistani Sikh male anchorperson. He began his career in journalism after completing a master’s degree in journalism from the Federal Urdu University in Karachi, Pakistan.

Harmeet was born in Shangla, Swat in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province of Pakistan.

Harmeet began his reporting career in 2016 and worked at ATV.

He joined Public News in 2018 as News Anchor. He later worked as a morning show host and also as a news reporter. His appointment was celebrated as a reflection of inclusiveness in Pakistan's media sector, showcasing the country's diverse cultural fabric.[1]

Recognition

Harmeet Singh was awarded recognition by the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan on Dec 9, 2024 for his extensive coverage of the Gaza war.[3]

Harmeet Singh was recently named in a case filed by the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) alongside other journalists and vloggers. He is accused of allegedly spreading misinformation and a false narrative against state institutions, specifically regarding incidents involving political protests and government actions. This development is part of a larger crackdown on journalists under Pakistan's cybercrime laws, raising concerns about freedom of speech and press rights in the country.[4]

2023

Shazia Mari of the Pakistan Peoples Party sent him a legal notice of a Rs 10 Billion for defamation when Harmeet made a post on X regarding a raid by her, which turned out to be fake news. Harmeet was sacked from his job at Public News since Shazia Mari threatened the channel of stopping all government advertisements.[5]
