Draft:GP-21 gas mask

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The GP-21 gas mask is a modern Russian civilian gas mask intended to create respiratory protection in the event of an attack which requires CBRN protection.

Design

[edit]

The face part of the civilian gas mask GP-21 consists of a body in the form of a low-profile volumetric mask with an under-mask, an obturator molded integrally with the mask body, panoramic "soft" glass thermally mounted in the body, a non-separable capsule-type intercom, an exhalation unit, a headband, two inhalation units - filter connections, one of which is closed with a plug. To take into account the individual characteristics of users, the face part has a left-hand and right-hand arrangement of the inhalation units - filter connections. In this case, both inhalation units have threaded connections (one of the units is closed with a screw-in plug). This avoids rearranging the inhalation unit saddle when changing the filter location. The face part has a six-point headband mount with self-tightening buckles for quick adjustment to any type of face. The panoramic glass is made of transparent flexible polymer material, resistant to abrasion and under various mechanical impacts (impacts, loads) it does not deform and returns to its original state. The presence of a sub-mask in the design of the face part ensures a tight fit of the face part to the nose and mouth of the user, and the valves built into the sub-mask eliminate the possibility of fogging of the inner surface of the panoramic glass.

The mask contains a drinking tube, making it is easy to drink water from a flask while working in a contaminated atmosphere. A version of the GP-21 with a face part equipped with a drinking device is called GP-21V. The design of the face part allows you to avoid the use of anti-fog agents for the goggle unit.

The face part (including the under-mask) of the gas mask is available in 2 sizes: 1 and 2.

The facepiece corresponds to category 3 (Cl 3) – special purpose masks intended for use in emergency situations.

The filter of the civil gas mask GP-21 has the form of a cylinder, with an external screwed neck for connection to the face part. It is equipped with an absorbing layer (charge) and an anti-aerosol filter. The filter body is made of metal with a paint and varnish coating. The filter material is not destroyed, it allows visually, without testing, to determine visible damage (dents) and pouring of the charge at the site of damage. The filter's seam is located in the filter element area, which eliminates the ingress of unpurified air (chemically hazardous substances) into the inhalation zone, in case of mechanical damage to the seam.
