It's believed he married in 1651 to Catherine Lejeune who may have been the daughter of a Native American Chief. François is listed as a farmer in a 1671 census.[1]

Among his descendants, stories have been passed that François wasn't French, but Italian. It is believed François was the illegitimate son of Thomas Francis, Prince of Carignano.[2] Though there is no evidence to prove or disprove this.[2] Though most people do not believe as there is a department in France called Savoie.
