Biography

Eystein Young Dingha Junior, born in Njinikom, [1]is a Cameroonian actor, screenwriter and director. He is known for his film The Planter's Plantation, winner of the Golden Screen at the 26th edition of the Black Screens festival in 20221.[2]

Birth

Eystein Young Dingha was born in Njinikom in the Northwest region of Cameroon. His father is from Kom, in the department of Boyo, and his mother from Bali, in the department of Mezam[3]. He did his primary education in the municipality of Njinikom and his secondary education cycle at St Paul's College in Bamenda.[4] He did his higher education at the University of Yaoundé II and then left Cameroon to settle in Nigeria.

Career

He began his career as an actor by training at Ruphina's House Academy in Bamenda.[5] This training allows him to land the leading role in several film productions in Cameroon, including: Samson, Ensomni, The Beast, Cypher Comedy Series, The Kaffi, Ndonne, My Best Day and a host of others.[3]

In 2021, he wrote the film Hidden Dreams, directed by Ngang Romanus. He is nominated in the best screenplay category for this film[6][7]. The film is proposed by Cameroon for the Oscar for Best International Film for the 94th Academy Awards ceremony.

In 2022, he released The Planter's Plantation, a musical film that he wrote and directed with actors like Nkem Owoh and Loveline Nimo in the lead roles. The film won the Golden Screen, the highest distinction at the Black Screens Festival, during the 2022 edition of the Festival held in October 2022 in Yaoundé. He is the first Cameroonian director to win this award during the 26 years of existence of this festival[8]. In October 2022, the film by the Planter's Plantation was also nominated by Cameroon for the Oscar for Best International Film.[9] Also in 2022, he directed the documentary Clando le bus de l'exil, devoted to the internally displaced people of the English-speaking crisis in Cameroon.
