Eva Carboni , was born in Sassari on the island of Sardinia. She's a blues singer and songwriter. Daughter of a herbalist mother and a father born and raised in France who sang the songs of French chansonniers. She trained at the highly regarded Vocal Power Academy in Los Angeles, graduating in singing under the tutelage of the renowned vocal coach Elisabeth Howard (Sting, Lionel Richie).[1]
Her recording career began in 2017, when she started working with British producer and songwriter Andy Littlewood and his label Mad Ears Productions. He heard her sing in a live show in 2016 and proposed to her to sing as a guest artist on the track 'River of Life' by blues rock guitarist Mick Simpson and was featured on his album 'Black Rain', which was played on BBC Radio 2 by Paul Jones.[2]
Since then, Eva has recorded and released three albums with Mad Ears Productions: Italia Square(2019), Smoke and Mirrors(2022) and Blues Siren (17 November 2024). She has also released numerous singles and a six-track EP called In The Name of The Blues(2019).[3],[4] ,[5]
She's getting great reviews and lots of radio airplay around the world.[6],[7],[8],[9],[10] ,[11] ,[12][13] ,[14]
One of her most popular songs, 'Love Me Tonight', has reaching one and a half million views on YouTube and YouTube Music,[15] and youtube.music[16] The gospel-tinged ballad, 'New Day Calling', was licensed for use in the soundtrack of the movie, 'Distant Sun'.
Her albums includes contributions by a host of top musician's including Mick Simpson(co-writer with Andy Littlewood of 'Love Me Tonight'), Vic Martin(Gary Moore)[17] (co-writer with Andy Littlewood of 'I've Paid My Dues'), Dave Hunt, Andrius Linsdell, Pete Nelson, Giovanni Bruno and Bob Steves.
Eva Carboni moves on a terrain where blues meets rock. And sometimes she also likes to play with old-style, slightly jazzy atmospheres. Her vocal range includes a spectrum of emotional expression, which goes from a warmer quality to flights on extreme notes.
Career
[edit]Her first 14-track album 'Italia Square' (2019), contains the blues ballad written by Mick Simpson and Andy Littlewood, 'Love me Tonight' that brought her to the fore on the international blues scene.
Her second album, 'Smoke and Mirrors' was released in 2022. It contains 12 tracks signed by Andy Littlewood including one written by Eva along with Andy, 'That Night', her official debut as a songwriter.
Greg "Bluesdog" Szalony writes in Blues Blast: "Thankfully her accent is minor, causing a few words to pass your ears, but not biggie. Her voice is so strong and sexy that you hardly notice".[18]
While working on the new album, some other singles were released, including, in December 2023, 'The Magic' written by Eva Carboni and Andy Littlewood.[19] It is a motivational song, a hymn to the search for one's own identity and inner strength.
The EP 'In The Name of The Blues' comes out in early 2024 and is a combination in 6 tracks of rock and blues that is ranked number 17 in the IBBA's (Independent Blues Broadcasters Associations) 40 most played radio albums.[20]
On November 17, 2024, the 13-track album 'Blues Siren' was released, preceded by a few days by a different version of "Slow Road To Redemption". Once again, blues and rock meet, with a couple of jazz tracks with a slightly retro and old-style flavor.
There are many interesting collaborations in this album. The songs 'Blues Siren', In The Streets of London' and 'Wrong Place Wrong Times' are written by Eva Carboni and Andy Littlewood. The song 'I've Paid My Dues' is the result of the collaboration between the historic English Hammond player Vic Martin(Gary Moore, Euritmics, BeeGees)[21] and Andy Littlewood, the rock ballad 'Alive and Breathing' is born from the collaboration between the Slovakian composer Marian Zima[22] and Andy Littlewood who also wrote the Blues ballad 'You've Gotta Change' with Mick Simpson. All the other songs on the album are written by Andy Littlewood. Mick Simpson also lent his voice to the guitar on most of the album's tracks.
The album has since been featured on numerous radio shows, reviews and interviews globally, Europe, UK, USA, Australia, Latin America and even China. An entire three-hour broadcast on Eva Carboni, broadcast in Palm Springs, California, a second live interview(the first was about 'In the Name of The Blues')on a radio station in Montevideo, Uruguay, in Spanish, a language she quickly learns to be able to answer questions live.
It has placed in numerous industry charts:
- 2 on the IBBA Top 40 Chart,( currently #12)[23] , in the Hit-Tracks Top 100 (currently two songs, from 11 weeks)[24] , it has been in the top positions on The Roots Music Report since its release, both in the Top 50 Contemporary Blues Album Chart[25] and in the Top 50 Blues Album Chart to name a few, as well as the song or album of the week on various radio stations.
Over the past few years she has performed with musician's such as Mick Simpson and Vic Martin (Gary Moore),[26] Pete Rees(Gary Moore), Derek Wilson, Mario Schilliro (Zucchero) and she also sung with artists like Buddy Guy, Marco Mendoza, Roy Rogers, Sergio Caputo[27].
The new band is made up of five-star musicians such as Vic Martin, Mick Simpson, Pete Rees and Graham Walker.
