Draft:Crawl Space Encapsulation

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Crawl space encapsulation is a term used for describing a crawl space repair service that helps to address excessive moisture in the crawl space.

Understanding the process of encapsulating a crawl space starts with understanding the reasons why a crawl space may need a crawl space encapsulation system. The first and most important reason is excessive crawl space moisture. Excessive moisture in a crawl space can lead to possible issues such as wood rot, mold growth, and unhealthy odors and air making their way into the living area via stack effect. This excessive moisture gets into a crawl space by way of foundation wall seepage, ground moisture, and any crawl space vents or openings to the outside. Sealing or encapsulating these areas off are the most effective way of eliminating the excessive moisture. This is how crawl space encapsulation works. A heavy duty, thick plastic is used to seal off the crawl space dirt floor, foundation walls, and any vents or openings to the outside. This envelopes the crawl space with the house and eliminates the areas that caused excessive moisture.
