Orji Chike Ibuchukwu is a Nigerian-born UK-registered nurse (UKRN), healthcare leader, and former student leader with a strong background in mental health and acute medical care.
Early Life and Education
Born on July 17, 1994, in Umuezuo Umuokrika, Ahiazu Mbaise, Imo State, Nigeria, he completed his primary education at Central School Umuokrika in 2006. He then attended Ahiazu Secondary School, Lude, and completed his Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (SSCE) at Mater Dei Secondary School, Arondizuogu, in 2011.
In 2014, he gained admission to Imo State University, Owerri, to study Nursing Science. During his time at the university, he distinguished himself as a dedicated student leader, serving as the class representative of the 2014 set and later becoming the SUG Director of Health in 2017. His leadership and commitment earned him recognition, including:
• Best Student of the Year (2019) – Awarded by the University Graduates of Nursing Science Association (UGONSA).
• Best Environmental Nurse of the Year (2019) – Awarded by the Imo State University Nursing Department.
He graduated from Imo State University, Owerri (Orlu Campus), in November 2019.
Professional Career
In February 2020, Orji Chike Ibuchukwu began his professional career with an internship at the Federal Neuropsychiatric Hospital, Enugu, where he was appointed intern representative for nurses and all hospital interns. His focus was on ensuring that newly qualified nurses received adequate support in both clinical experience and social skills. He completed his internship in 2021.
For his National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), he was initially posted to Zamfara State in March 2022, but later relocated to Maitama District Hospital, Abuja, where he served his country until February 2023.
Relocation to the United Kingdom
Driven by his passion for professional growth, Orji Chike Ibuchukwu pursued NMCN and NMC UK verification and successfully completed the required IELTS and CBT exams.
• October 17, 2022 – Moved to the United Kingdom after securing a job with Essex Partnership University NHS Trust.
• February 2023 – Passed the OSCE exam and became a UK-registered nurse (UKRN).
At Essex Partnership University NHS Trust, he specialized in older people’s mental health, gaining expertise in dementia care and related mental health conditions.
In December 2023, he transitioned to London Northwest University Healthcare NHS Trust, where he worked in a modern acute medical unit (AMU). Here, he expanded his expertise in managing acutely ill patients and collaborating with multidisciplinary healthcare teams.
By 2025, Orji Chike Ibuchukwu was appointed Deputy Manager at North London Foundation Trust, Beacon Center, further advancing his career in nursing leadership.
