Organization

[edit]

Community Involvement

[edit]

Since its founding in 1977, the Bay Club has remained deeply committed to giving back to local communities, becoming a cornerstone of philanthropy and support in the regions it serves. Over nearly five decades, the Bay Club has partnered with numerous charitable organizations and foundations to create lasting, positive impacts. This legacy of generosity traces back to the vision of Chuck Feeney, an early investor and advisor for the Bay Club and a renowned philanthropist who dedicated his life to the principle of “giving while living.”[25] Feeney’s passion for supporting communities and fostering opportunities has been a guiding influence on the Bay Club’s mission, inspiring programs and initiatives that continue to benefit individuals and families across its locations. Today, the Bay Club upholds this tradition, channeling its resources and spirit into meaningful causes that align with its core values of connection, care, and community.

In 2017, the organization established their charity initiative, Bay Club Cares, with the mission of giving back to the local communities of their membership. Partnering with charitable organizations like Tour de Pier, Boys & Girls Clubs of San Francisco, Augie’s Quest, Toys for Tots, and more, the Bay Club Company donates over $400,000 to local communities yearly.

Innovation

[edit]

The Bay Club was the first co-ed gym in the United States when it opened in October 1977[1]. In 1992 Redwood Shores (previously known as Pacific Athletic Club) was the first sports resort to open in the United States. The Bay Club introduced their "campus model" in 2008, which groups together clubs within a close geographic area to offer a complete set of amenities as a single membership option. In June 2021, Bay Club changed traditional health club memberships by introducing their innovative Shared Membership option, the first of its kind in the United States—allowing up to six individuals outside of the traditional household to join one membership, Shared Membership opens up Bay Club members to share the club with ones outside of their immediate family.[26]

Other Signature Programs and Innovation

[edit]
  • Recovery Centers: In December, 2022, the Bay Club piloted a complimentary Recovery Center for its membership base. This included top-of-the-line technologies like Hypervolt Percussion Massage, NormaTec Compression, CryoLounge+, and HydroMassage®. As of November 2024, the Recovery Centers were located at 14 of their locations.
  • Marissa Tries: A video series featuring their SVP of PR & Partnerships, Marissa Lucas engaging in new sports, community, club features and amenities.
  • Reinvestment: The Bay Club focuses on acquiring new clubs, rather than new-builds. They invested more than $50 million back into their clubs as part of renovations, and amenity enhancements in 2024.
