Babatunde "Tribe" Akande (born Babatunde Akande) , is a Nigerian nonbinary self-taught multimedia Creative Expressionist and storyteller artist.[1]
Early life
[edit]Tribe was born in the Lagos Island district of Lagos. Tribe was raised in Lagos, where he attended primary and secondary school. They were the first in a family of six children from his mother, and first from a family of four children from his father.
Career
[edit]They began their art journey began as a way to cope with mental health challenges and domestic violence. Their art focuses on visual art, sculpting, augmented reality, installation, performance, sound and photography[2][3][4]. In 2021, while studying Computer science, they dropped out of Sup MTI to go into full time art creation.
Awards
[edit]Babatunde is one of the Winners of the International Minority Art Contest 2023 for minority artists by OHCHR (United Nations) in Switzerland, Geneva.[5]
