Ashok Gawade

Ashok Ankush Gawade (born 1958) is an Indian politician from Navi Mumbai, Maharashtra. He is a senior leader of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) and has served in various capacities, including as Deputy Mayor of Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) and President of NCP's Navi Mumbai unit. He contested the 2019 Maharashtra Legislative Assembly election from Belapur Vidhan Sabha but was defeated.[1]

Early Life and Education

Ashok Gawade was born in 1958 in Maharashtra. He completed his secondary education at Vidya Vikas Mandir, Avsari Ambegaon, Pune, in 1975. Before entering politics, he was involved in the vegetable trading business.

Political Career

Gawade has been associated with the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) since its formation in 1999. He has been an active leader in Navi Mumbai politics, holding multiple positions in the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC).

Deputy Mayor of Navi Mumbai (2012)

In 2012, Gawade was elected as the Deputy Mayor of Navi Mumbai, a position that allowed him to work on civic development projects.[2]

2019 Maharashtra Legislative Assembly Election

In 2019, Gawade contested the Maharashtra Assembly elections from the Belapur constituency as an NCP candidate. He was defeated by Manda Mhatre of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).[3]

Shift to Eknath Shinde's Faction (2022)

In September 2022, Ashok Gawade resigned from the NCP, citing internal factionalism and dissatisfaction with party leadership. He, along with six other corporators, joined the Eknath Shinde-led faction of Shiv Sena, marking a significant shift in Navi Mumbai's political landscape.[4]
