Draft:Anuvadi Svara

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The anuvadi or anuvādī (Sanskrit: अनुवादी स्वर) is the third prominently used swara in Indian classical Raga. The anuvadi note forms a harmony with the first and second notes, vadi and samavadi respectively.

Description

[edit]

Anuvadi notes are described as assonant to the main note of any piece.[1] Anuvadi describes any subsequent musical note that is not the vadi (music) or samavadi.[2] The anchoring note, the vadi, determines the subsequent notes and the anuvadi compliments the piece.[1] The anuvadi are neither consonant nor dissonant to any other notes in the scale, and comparable to the major third in classical music.[3]

Anuvadi swaras are used less frequently than the vadi or samavadi but aid in the structure of the musical piece.[4]
