Davide Calabria (Italian pronunciation: [ˈdaːvide kaˈlaːbrja]; born 6 December 1996) is an Italian professional footballer who plays as a right-back for and captains Serie A club AC Milan.

Club career

[edit]

Calabria received his first call-up to AC Milan's senior team ahead of the away game against Lazio played on 25 January 2015, but remained an unused substitute.[citation needed] The same year on 30 May, he made his Serie A debut in a 3–1 away victory against Atalanta.[3] In the 2019–20 Serie A, Calabria scored his first goal against Roma.[4]

With the departure of Alessio Romagnoli at the start of the 2022–23 Serie A, Calabria was promoted to captain of the team.[5] On 14 January 2023, he scored his first goal of the season in a 2–2 draw against Lecce.[6]

Calabria played in the Supercopa Italiana four days later, which ended in a 3–0 defeat against rivals Inter Milan in Riyadh.[7] On 29 January, during a 5–2 home loss against Sassuolo, he reached 200 appearances for the Rossoneri in all competitions.[8]

International career

[edit]

Calabria represented Italy at various youth levels. On 9 November 2020, Calabria received his first call-up to the senior Italy national team from manager Roberto Mancini for three friendly matches against Estonia, Poland, and Bosnia and Herzegovina.[9] He made his debut against Estonia, coming on as a substitute in a 4–0 friendly victory.[10]

Style of play

[edit]

Calabria is capable of playing with either of his feet. He has been noted for his control and tackling abilities.[11]
