The Central States Numismatic Society or CSNS is a numismatic organization that has existed majorly in the Midwestern United States since 1939
History
[edit]The idea of a central numismatists society in the Midwest was first proposed at a Chicago Coin Club meeting in 1938, with the first official society meeting being on April 23, 1939.[1] The society's constitution was drafted and finished on May 16, 1955 of which Section 2. states "The principal activities of this Society shall be conducted in the following Central States: Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, South Dakota, and Wisconsin."[2] Making Kentucky the only state outside of the Midwest (U.S. Census Bureau's definition) to be included. Despite not being mentioned in the constitution, two clubs from Ontario are also affiliated. The Windsor Coin Club[3] and the Waterloo Coin Society.[4] The "Golden 50th Anniversary Convention" was held in Overland Park, Kansas on April 20-23, 1989. The convention hosted a design contest for an anniversary medal.[5]
The most recent notable milestone was the 80th Anniversary Convention held at the Schaumburg Convention Center on April 27-29, 2019.[6] The annual convention has taken place in Schaumburg, Illinois numerous times since the early 2000s.
