Category mission

[edit]

The goal of this category is to provide speedy cross-referencing for all US Army Ranger units, battles and operations in which Rangers played a significant role, and Rangers who have become famous for their service.

Examples:

  • Units:
  • Merrill's Marauders is listed. Due to Merrill's Marauders acting as a Ranger-type unit, as well as becoming the forerunners for the 75th Regiment, they are listed in the category as being a US Army Ranger unit.
  • The Queen's York Rangers (1st American Regiment) (RCAC) is not listed. Despite claiming status as a Ranger unit and being formed by Robert Rogers, they are not a US Army unit and not listed.
  • Battles:
  • Pointe du Hoc is listed. 2nd Battalion played a pivotal role in this battle.
  • Battle of Normandy is not listed. While Rangers fought bravely, they were a relatively small element during a gigantic assault.
  • Rangers:
  • Matt Eversmann is listed. MSG Eversmann became famous for his role during the battle of Mogadishu.
  • James Earl Jones is not listed. While he was a Ranger and served honorably, he did not become famous for his service. Let it be noted he attended Ranger School and qualified for the Ranger Tab, James never did serve in a Ranger Unit.
