Suggest rename to broaden scope of subject away from just matters of law.--Mcginnly 13:59, 10 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I am sure that a category with this title is will be useful to many people, but it needs to be more focisued on planning law and policy, with periheral subjects that happen to have a link to it either removed or placed in a separate category Or sub-category. My intention was to create a category called Town and country planning in the United Kingdom and then include the strictly legal aspects as subcategories in either United Kingdom law or a new category Planning law in the United Kingdom. This would allow the parent category to keep a clear distinction between the accepted law and the more nebulous 'influences and recommendations' that are always in the air informing policy makers. --Mcginnly 21:54, 17 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I come to this subject as a lead parish councillor for planning. As such, I make recommendations to the Parish Council on local planning applications, and draft its objections (unless very brief) as well as its responses to formal planning documents. It seems to me that there are probably three subcategories (1) planning law (2) planning policy (3) intersted parties.

Planning policy should focus on the various PPS and RPG (or whatever it has become), and concepts such as Greenbelt, Conservations area, Local Nature Reserve, SSSI (not in your list). An article on 'Planning Authority' exploring which council is responsible for what might also be useful.

Interested parties would include the various kinds of council, RTPI, RICS, National Playing Fields Association, etc. including other bodies regualrly consulted on applications. Peterkingiron 22:12, 20 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

That sounds like the makings of a good, clear structure to me. Could also really use your help in fleshing out some of the stubs. I was thinking I might make a start (mid May due to other commitments) on the actual nitty gritty of planning applications and process of applications. Seems to me this will probably be of most benefit to the general reader.--Mcginnly 23:44, 20 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

No harm in suggested renaming. Perhaps my 'interested parties' group (which is largely articles that cross reference) should be a subcategory and those directly related to planning law and policy should be another. I would oppose complete deletion. I do not feel I have the Planning expertise to do anything of the sort myself. Peterkingiron 23:50, 6 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
