Wrong category in templates
[edit]Templates with text such as this, "<includeonly>[[Category:xyz]]</includeonly>", have at least two problems.
- 1 If category xyz has a corresponding category FREE xyz, as many software categories do, then the template when used for articles in the FREE category generates a "Category:xyz" entry for those articles. Those articles already have a "Category:Free xyz" and the template generated category is wrong.
- 2 When the template is used on the category xyz page (very reasonable, someone looking at the category page is looking for what all exists and the template provides an organized summary) the template generates a "Category:xyz" for the xyz category page! -- xyz appears as a subcategory of xyz! Click it and go to the same page!! Try and explain that to a casual Wikipedia user. Worse, try and imagine that casual user understanding what is happening.
Suggestions are: don't include a category when a FREE category is possible (I've removed a number of them already); add logic to templates so that a category is not generated when the template is used on a category page. Thanks 69.106.246.15 (talk) 18:37, 2 February 2009 (UTC)
