Solving dead link issue
[edit]We are working on the dead links issue here. We hope to solve this issue with a little help from the community. Thanks - Hydroxonium (H3O+) 14:19, 6 February 2011 (UTC)
Specifying the date the url was detected dead
[edit]Should we not use the tag {{Dead Link|date=11:04, Wednesday, December 25, 2024 (UTC)}}
instead of {{Dead Link}}
to mark a dead link to categorize it, as it is recommended here?--Rishidigital1055 (talk) 13:02, 11 May 2014 (UTC)
- @Rishidigital1055: It's not recommended there. It only said that because you altered it without consensus. All of the cleanup templates - whether they be inline like
{{dead link}}
or banner like{{linkrot}}
- share the common characteristic that the|date=
parameter must be given a month and year. There is an established category structure based on that: see for example Category:Clean up categories from May 2014 or Category:Articles with dead external links. If you want to get the system changed, you should not unilaterally alter the guideline document, but instead seek consensus - for such a wide-ranging change, an WP:RFC should be raised at WP:VPR (at the very least). Bear in mind that a lot of templates will need to be altered, bots like AnomieBOT and well-used scripts like Twinkle will need to be changed, thousands of people will need to be re-educated, and a huge number of categories will need to be renamed. More at User talk:AnomieBOT/Archive 7#Please don't do this if there's already a date there! --Redrose64 (talk) 16:25, 21 May 2014 (UTC)
