British Invasion (disambiguation)

In popular usage, the term British Invasion refers to a cultural phenomenon of the early and mid-1960s in which rock and pop music artists from the United Kingdom, like the Beatles, and other aspects of British culture, like James Bond 007, became popular in the United States. The term was already applied in 1961 to developments in motorsport.

  • 1961 Indianapolis 500 and later years, known as the "British Invasion" as F1-World-Champion Jack Brabham brought the first rear-engine car to the Indy500, underpowered. With a suitable Ford engine, Lotus challenged in 1963 for the win, and starting from 1965, rear-engined British chassis from overseas prevailed
