Battle of Ryabaya Mogila - a battle that took place on June 17 (28), 1770 during the Russian-Turkish war in the area of the mound Ryabaya Mogila. The Russian army of up to 38 thousand men under the leadership of General P. A. Rumyantsev defeated the superior Turkish-Tatar forces (up to 70 thousand men) under the command of Khan Kaplan-Girey.

Battle

[edit]

By May 1770, the corps of General N. V. Repnin suffered heavy losses from the plague epidemic and with difficulty defended near Ryabaya Mogila from the Crimean cavalry that surrounded it. Rumyantsev came to the aid of Repnin and, after the connection, on June 17 began the battle.

According to the realized plan of Rumyantsev, the Russian army was divided into several separate detachments that attacked Kaplan-Girey's troops simultaneously from several sides. Rumyantsev's offensive put the Crimean-Turkish camp under the threat of encirclement and forced the Khan to retreat to the Larga River, losing 400 men in the process. The Russian army lost only 46 soldiers.
