Anthony Seigler (born June 20, 1999) is an American professional baseball catcher and second baseman in the Milwaukee Brewers organization.

Amateur career

[edit]

Seigler attended Cartersville High School in Cartersville, Georgia.[1][2][3] As a senior, he posted a 1.09 ERA in 25+23 innings along with batting .421 with 14 home runs.[1] He committed and signed to play college baseball at the University of Florida.[4]

Professional career

[edit]

New York Yankees

[edit]

Although a switch pitcher and switch hitter with infield and outfield experience, Seigler said "I feel catching is what's going to get me to the next level." Expected to be drafted late in the first round,[4] he was drafted 23rd overall by the New York Yankees in the 2018 Major League Baseball draft and signed with the team on June 9 for the slot-valued bonus of $2.8 million.[5][6]

He made his professional debut with the rookie–level Gulf Coast League Yankees, and after 12 games was promoted to the rookie–level Pulaski Yankees.[7][8] In 24 games between the two clubs, he batted .266 with one home run and nine RBI.[9] Seigler spent the 2019 season with the Single–A Charleston RiverDogs, batting .175 with six RBI over thirty games. He missed nearly the last two months the season due to injury.[10] Seigler did not play in a game in 2020 due to the cancellation of the minor league season because of the COVID-19 pandemic.[11] He played only 41 games for the High–A Hudson Valley Renegades in 2021 due to injuries, slashing .219/.324/.391 with four home runs and 24 RBI.[12]

In 2023, he played for the Double–A Somerset Patriots in the Eastern League, and he began playing second base.[13] Seigler returned to Somerset in 2024 primarily as a second baseman. In 118 appearances, he slashed .234/.350/.398 with 12 home runs, 49 RBI, and 29 stolen bases. Seigler elected free agency following the season on November 4, 2024.[14]

Milwaukee Brewers

[edit]

On November 19, 2024, Seigler signed a minor league contract with the Milwaukee Brewers.[15]
