Acts2 Network is a network of ministries primarily operating on college campuses in the US.[1] The headquarters is located in Bay Area, California. The network's mission statement is "Launching lifelong kingdom workers from every college town." [2]
Acts2 Network has 1600+ members, each of which engage in covocational ministry. Each member works a day job but also engages in ministry outside of their working hours. [3] In addition, members who join the network agree to a published Way of Life, a set of 15 principles, which guide spiritual and community life for its members. [4]
History
[edit]In 1981, Paul and Rebekah Kim founded Berkland Baptist Church (BBC) in the region of Berkeley, California and Oakland, California. They started a college ministry on the campus of UC Berkeley focusing on Korean Americans and later, Asian Americans.[5] Then, they started to plant BBC churches around the world and ended up moving to pastor the BBC Boston church. Ed and Kelly Kang took over the BBC Berkeley church and in 2006 split off from BBC, re-titling their church as Gracepoint.[6]
In 2023, Gracepoint then reorganized as Acts2 Network to better reflect it's organizational function. It no longer resembles a campus ministry at a local church, but a variety of ministries with children, youth, college, young adult, and elderly ministries. Ministries of Acts2 Network can be dissimilar in each location, but the members are united by adherence to a set of lifestyle norms rather than church functions.
The church has been the subject of investigations. Journalists have documented a variety of harms, including couples forced to break up, shaming, and overworked covocational staff members.[7][8][9]
